4/365 money & minimalism

I love the idea of being a minimalist.

I don't have a pic with money... but I do have a pic with her.
She makes me feel rich <3
Becoming a minimalist is what many relate with freedom.  It is the ability to become free in all aspects of your life (www.theminimalists.com).  Free from everything you can possibly think of:  fear, worry, anxiety, etc.

For me, it will take me a lot to become a minimalist because like a lot of us, "millenials" in this century - I want more than I can ever desire.  There is no such thing as a "need", it is always a want.  But this year, as one of my major new years resolutions, I want to change that.

My main problem, or freedom I cannot get a hold of the most is being able to live with what I need.  I have some ideas in mind to achieve this resolution, and I was wanting to share it with you.  Maybe, like you in my boat - may need these tips and tricks to be able to live a free life from the evilness of money.

1.  Priorities to survive.
Like many evolution biology classes, lectures will discuss the idea of the life cycle.  Humans and all types of live beings are fighting to survive.  With that, we must remember to create a spectrum to survive.  Many of the purchases should go towards food that is healthy.  Spend money on clothes that will not create a full closet, but a closet that has clothes that is useful (worn more often).  Spend money on what makes us happy as a need and never a want.

2. Ball on a budget.
There are so many ways to manage a budget - especially if you are a college student like me that balls on a tight one.  Along with prioritizing what you need to survive, build a budget that works for you.  Whether it be a daily, weekly, or monthly budget - let the mindset and outlook do its magic!  Then you would never have to worry about going negative in your balance.

3. Layout your "no spend months".
I love this idea.  Basically, your no spend months are the 30 days you do not go out shopping to the mall for anything that is not food and important *personal necessities.  Many may feel Christmas is everyday because of there favorite hobby of shopping - but if you do not have the budget... save the presents for months where you will spend without saying the line, "my bank account is crying".  If you budget, prioritize, and spend only within certain months = your bank account will never cry.  Trust me.

4. Sales are a great purchase!
But beware, some of these sales need to be tied with what you really need.  For example, Footlocker outlets always have sales on different shoes every week.  As long as you have shoes that are good and in perfect shape - you do not need another pair for a new week.  That is money that can be spent on groceries that are finally on sale!  Or a paper towel large set that will keep your home stacked for months.  Sales are meant for good purchases that will help you in the long run, not the next day.

5. Start that savings account!
I watched this video that talked about how much money you should save a day to become a millionaire in your later years of life.  As for me, around my early 20s - I should be saving at least $6 a day to become a millionaire when I am in my late 50s to 60s.  That is $42 a week.  Even on a tight budget try to save as much as you can - whether it is small or big, keep that savings account banked!  Train yourself to not dip into it, unless it is an emergency.  Hopefully in the long run it will make your heart very happy with how much you did not spend from that account.

There are probably many more tips out there that could make money and minimalism work with each other - but these are some that I will try to live by this 2017.  I mean, if I do not start now - when will I?  When money is not my problem - I will finally feel free.

Love,
Mari J Leano

P.S.  I am entitled to my opinions.  So if you do not like it - sorry??? Lol.
